Recovery after knee surgery is a gradual process that varies from person to person.
Everyone eats, moves, and believes differently.
These are all tied to our healing process.
Most people:
- Day 1: Begin standing and walking with assistance. Early mobility is crucial! It doesn't have to be hiking or sprinting movements.
- Weeks 1–3: Focus on mobility and range of motion, often moving from walker to cane. Multiple times a day!
- Weeks 4–6: Strength improves, swelling decreases, and many return to light daily activities. Do what you can, but don't overdo!
- Weeks 7–12: Independence grows; low impact activities like walking, cycling, or swimming are often possible. This usually depends on your prior level of mobility!
- Beyond 12 Weeks: Full recovery may take 6–12 months. Nerves are often still growing back together, and pain is very common at this time!
Consistency with therapy, hydration, and safe movement makes all the difference.
